for the love of glorified grilled cheese [ 2004-02-08, 7:16 p.m. ]

Another weekend swirls and swirls down the drain until the last little bit of it is gone and then you hear that metallic gurgle suction sound and you know that your weekend is gone and now slipping down the pipes through the gunk of weekends past and finally out the great drain pipe of time.

ummm.

Oh last night was one of those sleepless nights of dog distress. When your dog has the runs or whatever and has to go outside every dam hour on the hour. Oy. But hey it's certainly better than the alternative of her not getting outside. Besides which, if I wasn't opening the back door last night I wouldn't have experienced a moment of zenish proportions. A light snow was falling and carpeting the back yard at 2am last night. There's a sort of hushed silence and stillness when snow is falling. We don't get that very often in Georgia, I miss that.

Took it very easy all of Sunday, the big event being making panini sandwiches with the panini maker I got for Christmas.

Granted, I know Panini is Italian for "glorified grilled cheese sold to stupid Americans" and that you can make it without one with a bit of ingenuity, but sometimes I don't care to have use any dam ingenuity. You make your fave sandwich and put it in the maker and it mashes and squishes and beats the living hell out of your sandwich and comes out about a quarter as thick as it started. And it's just friggin wonderful and gooey and delicious. I find more and more that convenience and gadgets are the best things in life. I have no romantic attachment to grinding wheat with a stone for four hours like my ancestors to make a sandwich. Screw the old fashioned way I say.

Ahhh the Grammy's are on tonight with a FIVE MINUTE delay. Is that necessary? Are they analyzing each frame under a microscope before broadcasting it? That may actually the worst of all the bad traits of modern Americans really, we take something small and over-react in a huge way. Most often the over-reaction is 100 times worse than the original infraction (Patriot Act anyone?}

Oh and I can't wait to see what 50cent wears tonight so I can run out and buy the knock off tomorrow.

At the Salvation Army.
