oh the poor Dixie Chicks. I feel sorry for them. You know, actually I don't. Not because the one D.Chick said what she said, because that is certainly her right to say whatever. But rather the attitude of celebs in general. The D.Chick has further clarified she meant no "disrespect" but that she still maintains the right to free speech. Ahh, here is where the rubber meets the road.
Of course she has the right and if that is her opinion then God bless her. But similarily, don't get bent out of shape if listeners tell radio stations to stop playing your music or that they stop buying your CD's. If she was an actress or even rock star she would likely be fine, but these country fans are about the most collectively patriotic fanbase that exists. Bad miscalculation.

I'm glad you sort of asked.
Because why did she feel it necessary to say it in the first place? Unless I am mistaken and the Chicks are known for their fiery political anthems then it seems unnecessary. The crowd showed up to be entertained with stories of guys in wife-beater t-shirts or women "done wrong" in some way or other or how tornado's always seem to find trailor parks. Whatever. I mean she didn't also mention how often her bowels had moved that day or other info off the normal D-Chicks path. Your car mechanic doesn't comment on the clothes you are wearing and your dentist doesn't give you a rectal exam. Or he shouldn't anyway.
So why do those who entertain us feel they must weigh in on such matters? Because they are superior to you and know more than you and you desire to be enlightened by them. What caused this? We did. They make an obscene amount of money, people fall over them and get autographs etc. And if someone falls at your feet constantly wouldn't you think you were better than them?
What a kick in the teeth it must be for one of these people when it hits the fan like this.
I don't blame a one of them for feeling how they do about this or any other issue. But I am tired of having to hear one after another use the platform they are blessed enough to have to reel off their hackneyed views as a "informed" opinion. So sing or act or juggle or whatever you do and please dear God just shutup.
