a little diggin' never hurt anyone [ 2003-02-25, 6:53am ]

I know this makes me a rebel, but I have this funny habit of not believing the blurbs and soundbites and actually checking out through research facts and figures. I'm just funny like that. Briefly here's some things that occurred to me last night as I dug.

...Bill Clinton fired 450 Cruise Missles during bombing raids on Iraq during 1998, more than used during the whole Gulf war! He also drew up plans for troops to be sent in. America and the world yawned. Is it only bad because it's Bush doing it?

...The so-called Patriot Act is dangerous in it's scope and should have NEVER been passed. There is one crucial part of it, namely the FBI-CIA coordination that was a good idea. The rest? The kind of nonsense that gets tacked on to anything that the federal government does. This act is the most worrisome thing to me that exists today. Never mind the terrorists, the enemy is within!

...At the time of the American Revolution when the colonies revolted against unfair taxation (without representation etc) there was no income tax. The tax in question was on tea and stamps and a couple of textiles or basically a sales tax. That was it! What would they think of a 40% federal income tax, state income tax, city taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, sin taxes, fuel taxes? and dear Lord I could go on and on with the list.
